Lewes Ouse - River Clean Up

Plastic is now everywhere, but don't despair... as it is a man-made issue, we can do something about it.   Paddlers are in a unique position, as we can collect plastic from places others are unable to access.

There are other positive impacts to a Paddle Cleanup too:

  • Helps protect wildlife and minimise pollution.
  • Brings you closer to nature and all the magical benefits that brings
  • Makes you feel awesome
  • In fact - you become an everyday hero - who wouldn't want that!

We are running an eco-adventure for #RubbishRebels along with #PaddleCleanup founder and local podcast host Clare Talks Rubbish.  Clare is also a member of the Oceans 8 Brighton team who were behind the biggest ever beach clean in the Uk, on Brighton Beach after Pride this year.

Clare has paddled three groundbreaking expeditions, the width of England, Length of Wales and remote Scottish Islands cleaning up rubbish from our waterways and beaches and finding solutions to divert waste from landfill.  We will also be collecting data for the Surfers Against Sewage Great Autumn River Cleanup and Clare will be launching her Paddle Cleanup Toolkit which she has been working on with British Canoeing to empower paddlers across the nation to do their bit.

Our #paddlecleanup will be taking place on the river Ouse in Sussex. We'll meet for a 09:30 start and will be clearing every piece of rubbish we can find between Lewes & Glynde Reach,  finishing around 13:30.

All kayaking and safety equipment will be provided, except personal clothing. Everyone is welcome to join us, but its not recommended for children under 12.
